After studying Law at Napier University, I completed my Legal Diploma at the University of Edinburgh.  I returned to the Scottish Borders in 2008 to undertake my Traineeship.  In 2015, I joined Pike & Chapman/Douglas Gilmour & Son and became a Partner in 2016.

I specialise in buying and selling all types of residential property across Scotland, but my primary focus is here in the Scottish Borders.  I also assist clients with commercial property sales/purchases and lease arrangements. I have a wide experience in all aspects of chamber practice including Wills, Powers of Attorney and Executry work.

Many may not be aware that Douglas Gilmour & Son and Pike & Chapman have been one combined Partnership for many years and as a long-standing presence in each town, this arrangement has worked well. Our practices have been serving many of the same families for generations and our reputation is built on the strong relationships that we forge with our clients.

By bringing the two offices under one exciting new brand, I believe that Gilmour Pike Chapman can become an even stronger legal presence in the Scottish Borders and beyond, bringing with it an increased number of shared benefits for our clients.

I am proud to say that I have been advising and representing my clients in the Borders and beyond for more than 30 years.

Originally from Glasgow, the Scottish Borders is very much home to me and the place where I would properly begin my legal career as a young solicitor in the early nineties. After studying Law at Strathclyde University and completing my traineeship in Glasgow, I moved to the Borders to work for a local firm as their court assistant.  I spent the next three years managing the court department, travelling to all four Border courts then in existence on a weekly basis.

This invaluable experience would lead me to becoming a partner in Bannerman Burke for 22 years, a role which saw me specialising as a busy court lawyer in all aspects of litigation, as well as helping to jointly run one of the largest full-service legal firms in the region. As demand for business and commercial law continued to grow, I realised that there was a need to develop this aspect of the firm, and in particular, for handling specialist employment law and HR matters. In 2013, I launched Borders Employment Law, providing employers with a specialist legal service which is dedicated to law in the workplace.

I continue to support my professional colleagues as a member of the Council of the Law Society for the Borders and was Convener of the Law Society Equality and Diversity Committee for two years. I am also a convener of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland which sees me sitting with colleagues from diverse backgrounds in psychiatry, social work and wider mental health care services, to deal with case brought before the Tribunal. I have also become established as a practitioner in the Employment Tribunal throughout Scotland and this specialist representation is also used by my network of legal colleagues across the country, who I regularly work with on a collaborative basis.

I am delighted to have the opportunity to join Gilmour Pike Chapman at such an exciting time for the firm. I am looking forward to continuing to help the people of the Scottish Borders with their legal needs as I have done since moving here in 1992. This move represents the next positive step in my legal career, and I am very excited to be joining the firm.
